Soaking Healing Prayer

Every Sunday, 4-6 pm in the Prayer Furnace

“The LORD is my shepherd;  I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul…”  Psalm 23:1-2

Thoughout Scripture, the call is given to God’s children to “be still and know that I am God."  It is from this call that the tradition of soaking prayer grows.    “Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with his mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.” Psalm 131:2 Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still.”  Psalm 4:4

In soaking prayer, time is made to rest and be in God’s presence. There is no striving towards any end, but merely resting in God’s love and opening up in receptivity to this love.
As a person begins to connect with the reality of the Holy Spirit’s presence, they may feel affected in many ways. Some people feel warmth throughout their body or a tingling sensation, while others may feel a strong sense of peace or love.  Often when a person quiets down and has an expectancy that God will speak, the Holy Spirit may reveal through visions or impressions.  The person may also brought back to painful memories that God wants to touch and restore with His healing love. Physical and emotional healing occurs in His presence.

What does soaking prayer look like?  Some people like to lie down, some like to sit still.  The main thing is to be in a safe place so you can be vulnerable and free from distractions.  Set your affection on Jesus. This may be facilitated by listening to intimate worship music with meaningful words. As you reflect on the person of Christ and your longing for God, you might become aware of the Holy Spirit’s unseen presence. During this time trained prayer ministers will pray over you… as they are led by the Holy Spirit. God’s healing power is available for your emotional and physical healing.
